There are many healthy weight loss diets that state you have to be strict with your diet plans all the time. Cheating is for fad diets and can make you fat, apparently.
Well, there is some science that shows this may not be the case depending on which type of healthy weight loss diet you are following.
When you diet, whether it is a fad diet plan or a healthy weight loss diet, your body is usually being restricted in some shape or form. Obviously you can’t eat more than what you burn to lose weight so there will always be some type of restriction, whether it be calories or a specific nutrient.
The body can start to think that you are starving it when this happens and slow your metabolism to conserve energy. It does this when it senses your hormone leptin level drop.
The good thing is that you can easily reset your leptin levels by "cheating" on your diet. If you are following a fad diet or other diet plan that requires restriction of some type you might want to implement a "cheat" day once every 5-7 days to reset your leptin levels and keep your body from triggering its starvation response.
Just make sure that this 1 cheat day a week doesn’t turn into 2 or 3 cheat days.
